JGAurora Disrespects Open Source

Almost all of the JGAurora printers use the Open Source Marlin 3D printer firmware at their core, which is licensed using the GPL - the β€œGeneral Public License”.

In a nutshell, the GPL means that ANYONE can use the software for FREE, BUT if a company wants to use GPL software in their product, for the part of their product that uses this software, they must provide the source code.

JGAurora has been asked for their source code, and they refuse to supply it, which not only breaks the terms of the GPL, it disrespects the Open Source community, and the work they have put into this project.

Simply put, by not complying with the rules of the GPL, JGAurora has in essence pirated or stolen the Marlin firmware. While this software is given away for free, it is not worthless, comprising many thousands of hours of work from the Marlin developer team.

JGAurora printers would not be possible without the Marlin Firmware!

If you decide that this is not acceptable, you may wish to tell JGAurora that you will not buy their products until they comply with the GPL.

Like with many infringing Chinese companies, it is difficult to enforce copyright and legal matters across international borders. What you do with your money speaks the loudest.
